I went to the bookstore at midnight on Saturday to pick up a copy of the 7th and final installment in the Harry Potter series. While I’m sorry to see the series end, and would have loved to savor the book, I decided to hunker down, stay away from the computer and newspapers, and finish the book as soon as possible so that no one would spoil the ending for me.
This morning, I turned the last page, and can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would never give away any plot points, so my commentary will be general and non-specific until more people have had a chance to read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
What I will say is that I found this last installment to be a quick but satisfying read, and I applaud J.K. Rowling for her creativity and fertile imagination. She’s lead millions of young children (and adults) to explore a wondrous world of her own creation, and instilled a love of reading in so many. I’m looking forward to seeing what she comes up with next, and I hope it’s not too long before her next book hits the shelves.
